Which terminal is which
Terminal 1 handles Air Canada and its Star Alliance partners, plus a large share of long-haul international traffic. It is the newer and larger of the two.
Terminal 3 handles WestJet, Air Transat, Sunwing and much of the Oneworld and SkyTeam traffic, along with many US carriers.
Airlines do move between terminals, so the flight number rather than the airline name is the reliable indicator. When you book a car, give the flight number and let the operator work it out.
Curbside pickup
Both terminals use the arrivals level for passenger pickup. Curbside space is controlled and vehicles cannot wait indefinitely, so a well-run operator holds in the cell-phone lot and moves in once you are actually at the door.
The practical routine: clear customs, collect your bags, then text or call. Your chauffeur gives you a door number and a vehicle description and is there within a few minutes. Standing outside in January while a car circles is the failure mode this avoids.
Meet-and-greet, and when it earns its keep
Meet-and-greet means the chauffeur parks, comes inside, and waits in the arrivals hall past customs holding a name board, then helps with luggage out to the car.
It is worth paying for when you are collecting a client you have never met, when a first-time visitor is arriving, for unaccompanied minors and elderly passengers, and any time a group is arriving on several different flights and needs marshalling into one place.
For a seasoned traveller with a carry-on, curbside is faster.
Free wait time and why it varies
International arrivals normally include 60 minutes of complimentary wait from touchdown, domestic 30. The difference is customs and immigration, which on a bad evening at Terminal 1 can absorb most of that hour.
Wait time starts at actual landing, not scheduled landing. That distinction is what makes flight tracking more than a marketing line.
