Price predictability is the real difference
A pre-booked limousine is quoted flat: you know the number days before you fly. A taxi runs on a meter that depends on traffic. A rideshare is dynamically priced and can double during a snowstorm or a Friday evening arrivals bank — precisely when everyone wants one.
For a downtown run the three are often within a similar range on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. On a Sunday evening in February they are not remotely comparable.
What happens when the flight is late
This is where pre-booked service separates itself. A limousine booking is tied to your flight number and tracked, so a two-hour delay simply moves the pickup and costs nothing extra.
A rideshare has no idea you exist until you open the app in the arrivals hall — which is fine at 2pm and considerably less fine at 1am when a delayed widebody has just disgorged three hundred people onto the same curb.
Taxis queue at the rank, which works well at busy times and less well overnight.
Luggage and passengers
Four adults with four checked bags will not fit comfortably in a standard sedan of any kind. A pre-booked SUV or van solves it; a rideshare gamble does not, and finding out at the curb is an expensive way to learn.
If you are travelling with a car seat, pre-booking is effectively the only reliable option — Ontario law requires an appropriate restraint, and a booked limousine fits one in advance at no charge.
Where each option genuinely wins
Rideshare — solo traveller, carry-on only, off-peak, price-sensitive, flexible about waiting.
Taxi — no booking made, arriving at a busy hour, short trip, happy to queue at the rank.
Limousine — anything with a deadline, a client, children, a group, significant luggage, a late arrival, bad weather, or a need for a fixed cost and a receipt that satisfies a finance department.
